Who would have though, watching Jamie Foxx perform on In Living Color, that he would be one of the biggest hip hop sensations of the decade. Foxx released his first album, “Peep This” in 1994 and while it is a hot join, for a while Foxx was known more for his humor and acting. In 2001 Foxx hosted the MTV Video Music Awards.

In 2004 Jamie Foxx blasted into the mainstream with his Oscar-winning portrayal of singer Ray Charles. His stunning portrayal earned him the Best Actor Academy Award for Ray. In the same year, Foxx also gained wide-spread acclaim for his portrayal of Max in Tom Cruise’s Collateral. His acting in Collateral also earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, which puts Foxx in the record books. He is only the second male ever, and the first African American, to receive two Oscar nominations in the same year. The legend Al Pacino is the other male to earn this honor.

Ray also gave a huge boost to Foxx’s musical credentials, as he sang the hook on Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” which was one of the biggest hits of the year. Gold Digger shot directly to #1 and stayed there for a whopping 10 weeks. In addition to Gold Digger, Foxx was helped along by his terrific in Twista’s “Slow Jamz.” Foxx earned another distinction that year, as he became only fourth artist to win both an Academy Award and a #1 record in the same year, joining legends Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Barbra Streisand.

On December 16, 2008 Jaime Foxx released his third album Intuition. Intuition reached #3 on the Billboard Charts and #1 on the hip hop charts, stying there for six weeks. Intuition has since been certified platinum. The album features a number of hip hop heavyweights, including Kanye West, Lil Wayne, T.I. and T-Pain. Intuitions first single “Just Like Me” featured T.I., and it was followed up by “Blame It” featuring T-Pain. Intuition also contains a remix of Ne-Yo’s “Miss Independent” featuring Fabolus with the new name “She Got Her Own”.

During his music career, Jamie Foxx has garnered a number of music awards and nominations. They include an American Music Awards for Favorite R&B/Soul Male Artist and a nomination for Favorite R&B/Soul Album for Unpredictable. A 2006 BET Award nomination for Best Collaboration for “Unpredictable” with Ludacris. Six Grammy Awards nominations in 2007 for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group, Best R&B Album, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (“Creepin”). He was also nominated for the 2006 MOBO Best R&B Act. Four MTV Video Music Award nominations, including Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Ringtone, Best R&B Video and the MTV2 Award. Three Soul Train Awards for Best R&B/Soul Album, Best Music Video and Best R&B/Soul Dance Cut. And finally, Jamie Foxx received two Vibe Award nominations, Best Collaboration in both 2004 and 2005.
